Catalyst 5000 Series |
| |
|
|
The
Catalyst 5000 Family features a Gigabit Ethernet and ATM-ready
platform offering users high-speed trunking technologies,
including Fast EtherChannel® and OC-12 ATM. The Catalyst
5000 series also features a redundant architecture, dynamic
VLANs, complete intranet services support and media-rate performance
with a broad variety of interface modules. Modules for the
Catalyst 5000 family chassis --- Catalyst 5500, 5509, 5505,
5000, and 5002---are designed for complete interoperability
and investment protection. Catalyst 5000 family supports multiprotocol
NetFlow Switching for scalable convergence of Layer 2 and
Layer 3 switching, adding the benefits of multiprotocol, multilayer
switching and other Cisco IOS network services.

Catalyst
5000 family incorporates 5500, 5509, 5505, 5000 and 5002:
- All
platforms support hot-swappable modules
Catalyst
5500 - 13 slot chassis
- High-end,
modular switching platform able to meet the requirements
of today's demanding and fast-growing enterprise intranets
- Backbone
applications - feature-rich, scalable 10/100/1000 Ethernet,
FDDI, or ATM switch, or in wiring closet applications that
support a wide array of switched Ethernet, Token Ring, and
ATM modules
- Most
scalable platform in the industry today - deliver densities
from 12 ports to more than 500 ports
Catalyst
5509 - 9 slot chassis
- Wiring-closet
solution with dedicated switching for up to 384 dedicated
switch ports
- Support
for high-density Gigabit Ethernet for switched intranet
backbones and data centers that require multimillion-pps
forwarding rates (up to 38 ports of Gigabit Ethernet - highest
port density available today for the Catalyst 5500 Series.
- Cisco
Gigabit EtherChannel technology enables multiple Gigabit
Ethernet links to be treated as one logical link for up
to 8 Gbps (full duplex) of device-to-device throughput
Catalyst
5505 - 5 slot chassis
- Combines
the size of the original Catalyst 5000 with the performance
boost and added features of the Catalyst 5500
- Up
to 194 switched Ethernet ports at a multimillion-pps forwarding
rate
Catalyst
5002 - 2 slot chassis
- Can
be configured with any current or future Catalyst 5000 Family
modules
- ATM
LANE module turns the Catalyst 5002 into a compact, high-performance

The Cisco
Catalyst 4000 Family integrates nonblocking Layer2/3/4 switching
with optimal control, enabling business resilience for enterprise
and metropolitan (metro) Ethernet customers deploying Internet-based
business applications. The Catalyst 4000 Family, including
the Cisco Catalyst 4000 and new Catalyst 4500 Series, is a
key component of Cisco AVVID (Architecture for Voice, Video
and Integrated Data). Extending control to the network edge
with intelligent network services, including sophisticated
quality of service (QoS), predictable performance, advanced
security, and comprehensive management. This platform delivers
advanced control with integrated resiliency. Integrated resiliency
in both hardware and software minimizes network downtime,
ensuring workforce productivity, profitability, and customer
success.
